A TRUE RELATIONSHIP - Rev Ken Esekhaigbe Devotional

Rev Ken Esekhaigbe

DAILY DEVOTIONAL WITH REV. KEN ESEKHAIGBE
MARCH 10TH 2017
TOPIC: A TRUE RELATIONSHIP
“And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:41-42

The above opening scripture is an excerpt from a discussion between Jesus and two women whom He visited. It was actually Marthas house and when Jesus came in, both ladies were excited to see the master. Both however responded differently to the masters presence.

Martha went about trying to fix things for the master while Mary sat at Jesus feet to have a meaningful conversation with Him. Martha however was irritated with her sisters behavior and made a complaint to Jesus. Jesus however didn’t give her the response she was expecting as we can see from our opening verse. There is a very deep lesson to learn from this story.

Understand that Jesus didn’t completely condemn what Martha was doing but there was something He expected of her at that time which wasn’t what she went for. In our Christian faith, some of us are like Martha. Being so deeply involved in the work of God without developing a true relationship with Him.

A wise man once said, “In your journey of faith never get to the point where you love the work of God more than the God of the work.” It is a very good thing to be deeply involved with the work but doing that without properly developing your relationship with Him would be short-changing yourself. One thing is needful Jesus said. Truth is, when you find yourself trying to always do the work with developing your relationship, you would turn from working by grace to working by strength. And by strength shall no man prevail.

The bedrock of all we do in our Christian faith is our relationship with God. This is what takes Christianity from a mere religion to being a relationship and a life. Sometimes we run through the day doing things we believe should make the master pleased forgetting to spend time at His feet. Meanwhile it is the time spent with Him that generates the spiritual energy required to truly work for Him.

Your relationship with God, the time you spend quietly with just Him, listening and hearing from Him is very dear to Him and should be to you too. Create time for Him every single day. Not just time to attend church activities or ministry duties but also personal time one on one with Him. This makes the burden of ministry light and the yoke easy. A true relationship cannot exist without proper communication. Your personal time with the Lord can never be replaced with the time you spend on church activities, so while you render your service ensure you also enjoy a true relationship with the Lord. Have a great day.

SCRIPT REF:  John 20:17
